Folk traditions: a feast in every place
And definitely an itinerary meant to discover all the rich inheritance of traditions and folklore could not be passed by. An itinerary characterized by sacred and profane and winding through religious feasts (Christmas time, Easter, the patron festival) and pagan rituals connected to enthusiastic events such as the vintage, the harvest, the reaping, the fishing and the wedding, of course… all of this happening at the background of sunny villages, seaside landscapes and rural scenes. A journey through village festivals (the feast of the almond-tree blossom in Agrigento, the enlighten flight of steps of Caltagirone, the festival of the corn’s spike in Ganci…) and open-air markets (one of the most famous is the “Vucciria” market in Palermo…); through folk music, parades of Sicilian carts, popular singing and theatricality (“theatre of puppets” and performances of Latin plays and Greek tragedies).
Old traditions still alive and lived in the utmost authenticity: just like it happens in the wood, iron, coral, embroidery and above all ceramic local handicraft which has its highest and prestigious expression in the painted plates and in the decorated pottery of Santo Stefano di Camastra, Caltagirone and Sciacca.
