From Messina to Capo d’Orlando, the north-east coast of Sicily offers splendid beaches and breathtaking scenery. At the extreme north-eastern tip, where the Tyrrhenian sea meets the Ionian, lies Ganzirri, a well-known holiday location on the banks of two characteristic salt water lakes. Following the coast road to the west we come to Milazzo, ideal for trips to the Aeolian Islands, Patti, a charming seaside town with the important archeological site of Tindari, an ancient Greek-Roman town with a majestic Greek Theatre, a Basilica and the remains of a Roman quarter. This coast also boasts some of Sicily’s most beautiful beaches such as those at Marinello and Gioiosa Marea as well as the evocative bay of Capo Calavà, the characteristic fishing village of S. Gregorio and the town of Capo d’Orlando, well-known for its splendid sea, numerous bars, open-air restaurants and evening bars and cafès, especially in the summer months. Hikers and nature lovers can enjoy the nature tracks and trails in the nearby Nebrodi park.
